If they don’t change that soon, look for conspiracy theories from the left accusing Republicans of being behind it to gin up a wave of hate against Democrats before the midterms. You don’t think they will?
The government also had no problem rounding up J6ers from surveillance and facial recognition tech. As long as we’re going with conspiracies, consider the push for Palantir and the public demand for a security bill of goods they’ve been sold in the wake of an existential threat. Everybody remember how the “Patriot” Act breezed through with “bipartisan” enthusiasm, and what day it is today?

Surveillance cams seem able to count the hairs on a bee’s knees when deemed desirable, but provide only gas station C store quality blur of 25 years back when we’re to be kept in the dark.
Killers ‘all in black’ infiltrate venues full of folks in shorts and tee shirts without difficulty, somehow invisible to what passes for ‘security teams’.
Said security teams never (?) look up at rooftops, towers, or hills within reasonable (out to 200 yds) shot distance.
But who am I to second guess my betters, the security professionals takin’ care of business, the ones who will happily disarm me and you who only wish to defend ourselves and ours.
Tempus fugit
Just about every political assassination in American history has had ties to Uncle Sam.
You’re right, if Trump, Patel, the GOP are serious about “MAGA”, “America 1st”, “draining the swamp” and “beating the deep state”, they’ll find a suspect, and they’ll arrest, and prosecute, with a speedy trial, as per the Constitution.
Otherwise, I agree, the leftist will go bananas thinking Trump assassinated Kirk to blame them.
In addition to Palantir and the techno state, the right’s already frothing at the mouth for sweeping 2A bans for the so called “trans” crowd, without due process. It’s pitting right vs left, in very violent form.
Of course the Dems will try to frame it as a Right-wing false-flag operation intended to smear the Left.
And then they’ll convince (as if any of us paying attention needed more convincing) that peaceable people on the Right are targets and the ONLY way to prevent more assassinations is to give more power to the State and to private surveillance companies to invade everyone’s essential liberty in order to secure a little temporary safety.
(It WILL be temporary, because with the next assassination or attempt, they’ll reach for more.)
But there are plenty of people on the Right who will be sufficiently fearful — and sufficiently ignorant of history — to go for it.
