So… the only time “progressives” pretend they to be horrified by suicide is when it’s DIY and a gun is used…
If the choice had been hers, Brigitte Stegemann would have said “No.”

This has been making the rounds, and if true (and it looks like it is), consider that by the raw numbers more Canadians die from/under MAID than Americans die from “gun violence.”
By the population-adjusted numbers, it’s not even close. Not even if you include suicide-by-firearm (which the study didn’t; it only counted homicides).
The raw numbers: In 2025, some 16,000+ Canadians died under the MAID program, out of a population of just under 42 million. That same year, some 14,651 (best number I could find) Americans died in gun-related homicides, out of a population of ~340 million.
America has eight times the population, so when adjusted for that, a Canadian is about nine times as likely to die under MAID than an American is to be murdered with a firearm. Even if you include suicide-by-firearm in the “gun deaths” number — because around 2/3 of “gun deaths” are suicides, so that triples the number of deaths — a Canadian is still about three times as likely to die under MAID.
The headline — “More Canadians die from MAID each year than Americans do from gun homicides” — is already bad enough. Adjust for the population, and it gets so much worse. MAID now counts for over 5% of deaths in Canada, and is the third-leading cause of death.
And now that reports are coming out that some Canadians dying under MAID did NOT desire to end their lives, it’s looking like at least a plurality of those numbers are government-sanctioned euthanasia and/or eugenics, not physician-assisted suicide. The more you learn about it, the worse it gets.
