When asked to explain what happened, the officer said, “I mistakenly thought the trigger was a release for the revolver’s cylinder. Thankfully no one was injured.” [More]
From Colorado, of course. Now deflect by talking ab0ut a stellar career and awards to keep from giving us this absolute moron’s name…

A trigger mistaken for a cylinder release… That’s a new one.
What kind of extreme gun-free culture — including zero movies and TV shows depicting guns being used, for good or ill — would one have to grow up in to not know the function of a gun’s trigger?
I can think of some aboriginal tribes that might not know, the kind that weave fishing nets from leaves and wear loincloths, and which anthropologists insist the rest of the world have zero contact to preserve their culture and way of life. But someone like that wouldn’t have come to America, let alone gone through the police academy — including firearms training — and become a police officer.
At the end of the day, would the police, DA, and judge have accepted such a ridiculous excuse from any of us? No? Then why is it acceptable from one of the “Only Ones” trained and responsible enough to carry a firearm daily?
I’d make a modest bet that the “coin purse” gun was a derringer with no trigger guard and an atypical-looking trigger, like this NAA .22.
