You Gotta Start Somewhere…

This means that of the three percent of U.S. homicides carried out with rifles, a portion might have been carried out with lever actions, another portion might have been carried out with bolt actions, another portion with pump actions, another with semiautomatics, and yet another with AR-15s, etc. [More]

  1. One of my favorite T-shirts reads:

    Things I hate:
    1. T-shirts
    2. Lists
    3. Irony

Now that we’re on the subject of irony, in his original Violence Policy Center whitepaper, in which he coined the term “assault weapon” and advocated for what became known as the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, Josh Sugarman said they were a good place to start because there were so few of them in circulation and therefore had only a small constituency that would lobby to keep them legal.

The irony? The eventual ban he inspired succeeded in turning the AR15, a firearm Colt was having trouble getting Americans to buy, into what might be the most popular rifle currently in production and gave it the nickname “America’s Rifle.”

And of you’re going to beat the Left over the head with the “in common use” mantra, America’s most popular rifle would be a damn good place to start.
