Murphy is one of the reasons we moved out of Connecticut. Him and Blumenthal seem to be competing for the title of dumbest senator. And Ct.’s congressmen aren’t any better.
Murphy has seen too many movies. Hollywood likes to make a big show of the bad guy screwing a silencer on the end of his pistol and shooting at the good guys with a barely-audible “pew pew pew”, and the anti-gun crowd thinks that’s an accurate reflection of reality.
We in the gun community know that “silencers” … generally don’t, not as normal people understand the word “silence”. (Something close to that CAN happen, under specific circumstances, with specially-designed firearms and purpose-built ammo. Neither are cheap, nor easy to find at your local Big Box stores, nor what you’d expect a normal gang-banger or street criminal to carry.)
Most of the time, though, silencers reduce the report from “instant hearing damage/deafness” levels to “hearing damage over time” levels. Or put another way, from “painful” to “uncomfortable”. Most “silenced” firearms are still air-raid-siren loud (110-120 decibels), having been “silenced” from 150-160 decibels or more.
But Chris Murphy has no doubt been informed of all of this. Many times. Which makes him a deliberate liar.
And Hollywood knows at least twice as much about guns as The Beeb.
Mufflers are used to conceal the fact that you are driving a car.
It’s amazing how many people are surprised to learn that not only are automobile mufflers and firearm suppressors pretty much identical technology, they were both invented by the same man.
Yet the former is encouraged or required by law most places, and the latter is banned some places and heavily-regulated everywhere else.
But remember, when they say we should “regulate guns like cars”. Add “Noise mufflers/suppressors are encouraged or required, require no special cost or registration, and even come pre-installed on all new models” to the list.
The anti-silencer whisper campaign has become more verbally pronounced of late. These reactionaries have seen one too many shoot-em-up Hollywierd films.
