  1. I remember it like it was only yesterday- the steaming heat and the humidity that wouldn’t even allow sweat to evaporate, the heavy, unrelenting green foliage and vines obscuring vision and the constant whine of insects around your ears. We found that our smaller rounds did not seem to fare as well as the heavier ammo used by the VC when it came to making hits through the undergrowth, but if we could get at least three rounds on target, they did the job. But the most horrifying experience of all was entering an area that was always dark and foreboding, where neither our 5.56 rounds nor their 7.62 were used as much as the Soviet supplied 9mm…. that area was called the Forest of Lungs, and the trees were festooned with thousands of lungs, American AND Vietnamese, blown completely out of the bodies of the hapless warriors and left to rot in the shadows. The nightmares never end.

    1. If… if only Vietnam had had balconies, where we could have used our double-barreled shotguns.

  2. Their, and the shooters’, fixation with the AR15 puzzles me. An FN-FAL’s 7.62×51 rounds would be way more deadly as would a 12ga firing 00 buck. Yet both groups are stuck on something that fires a round that isn’t legal for hunting whitetail in some states. Not because it is too powerful, but because it isn’t powerful enough.
