Our republic was born in part as smugglers in order to have those things the King saw fit to tax.
Since then no government, national, state or local, has been able to control what Americans have been able to have. They can only control to a limited extent how we acquire those things we’re told are verboten.
When someone does invent a “phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range,” Americans who want one will find a way to have one.
