That Explains It

From Rep. Paul Gosar to a constituent via email:

Reconciliation is a procedure under the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, where Congress implements budget resolution policies that are required to be related to permanent spending and revenue programs. Additionally, the Byrd rule, which was incorporated into the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, prohibits provisions that are “extraneous to the purpose of implementing budget resolution policies.” Consequently, provisions in a reconciliation bill cannot include policy changes that do not affect the budget or spending programs.

Consequently, this is why the full versions of the SHORT and Hearing Protection Act were not included in the bill, as the portions that affect non-tax provisions of the National Firearms Act (NFA) violate the Byrd rule.

Per the recipient:

“Now the only thing I need to figure out is how they managed to pass a bill out of the House that removed both the tax AND the registration. If you have any news on that, it sure would be worth a blog post.”

I don’t. How about you? And why not do the same with SBRs?

A Modest Proposal

The NFA is constitutional because it’s “a modest burden” and not a ban [More]

The Second Amendment does not say “shall not be banned.” It says “shall not be infringed.” Even modestly.

Unless you’re one of the “smartest people in the room” who buy into the Trump/Bondi DOJ is playing super secret 3D chess with court rules that they can’t tell us about, and it will all work out in the end, honest…

Then ask why they’re not pushing SBRs.

Silent Runnings

  • Newsom lies (SOP): No on “snuck” anything, all the gun groups and “gunfluencers” have been banging pots and pans to light up legislator switchboards. And he’s talking about cutting off illegal immigrants from tax plunder healthcare, and coming from him that’s rich.
  • Why not DIY?
  • More “Party of the People” discriminating against the least fortunate among us — and tell us out of control government spending and issuing fraudulent fiat currency has devalued the dollar without telling us out of control government spending and issuing fraudulent fiat currency has devalued the dollar.

Unsuppressed Enthusiasm

I note the announcement does not include the SHORT Act being included in the House version. I’ve heard some stuff about that I may be sharing in a few days if I can confirm.

What will the Senate do? Gut feel: A critical mass of Dems love our money more than they our hate guns. And let’s not let this potential “win” on guns blind us to the existential dangers of out of control government spending to advance powers nowhere delegated.

Looks like I may have been wrong for being so negative about HPA’s chances.

Hey… does this mean I can dig up the Chore Boy…?

In Great Demand?

During late debate over budget reconciliation proposals, a coalition of Second Amendment organizations is demanding that short barreled rifles and shotguns, as well as sound suppressors be removed from regulation under the 1934 National Firearms Act. [More]

Good idea. Some questions:

  • Where are the big gun groups?
  • How can gun owners get involved, or is one letter it?
  • Is anyone keeping track of each member contacted, and whether or not they’ve responded and how?
  • And if they don’t?

Silencing Critics

Deleted the tweet calling @Silencercentral liars but leaving my reply to them as it still begs some questions. [More]

That’s a common misuse of the term, but we get the meaning.

This and denials by Cox and Kustoff highlight the importance of making sure of your target before touching the trigger. I’d guess the only reasons there haven’t been lawsuits is because they wouldn’t be worth it in terms of further alienation and deep enough pockets.

I haven’t said much about this whole recent suppressor flap other than I just don’t get why so many prominent 2A community voices are getting everybody excited over what the committee does when they know a bill will never reach the president’s desk. And these are the same “gun rights leaders” who have remained dead silent about the “pro-gun” Trump administration’s DOJ arguing that banning machineguns doesn’t violate the Second Amendment.

Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Would Slash Suppressor Transfer Costs To Zero [More]

But that’s not REALLY the point, is it?

I know, his rhetoric is a damn sight better than what Harris’s would have been, but who seriously believes even this will make it out of the Senate and to his desk?

I wish GOA would use the rhetoric I’m seeing from them here on something much more existential that they have so far been ignoring.

Muster Call?

Stalled 2A Bills Need Your Support [More]

Say everybody floods the switchboards and the bills make it out of committee. Then what?

I see the 2A blogosphere and guntubers mobilizing on this while actual doable priorities remain ignored and mostly unknown. I’d say at least it will help flush out committee RINOs, but then have to ask what gun owners will do about it, because they all seem to flourish with impunity.

Related UPDATE

But far be it for the “no compromise gun lobby” to notice this.

Nothin’ at this writing…

I miss Larry’s leadership.

Why do ATF agents need new suppressors for their ARs? [More]

Oh, look! LEs use the same “hearing protection” argument “our side” does (instead of us claiming it as a right government has no legitimate claim to). Meanwhile, the grabtard lobby tells its useful idiots that, in the hands of mere citizens, they are “inherently dangerous devices” and “deadly accessories.”

So California requires one and bans the other… Is this where some idiot “progressive” would say “Yeah, but cars don’t kill people”?

Yeah, but he’s only been on the job two months and he’s got a lot on his plate and he’s playing a 3D chess game and… aside from “Would you rather have Kamala?” what excuse did I miss?

And any word on the Bondi report yet?
