Five of the “bluest of the blue” states have enacted their own state level “assault weapon” bans. To date the best estimates put compliance rates at about 20%. I wonder what the compliance rate would be in Texas.
For good or ill, we’re nor even remotely like our Brit, Aussie, or Kiwi cousins. There won’t be any long lines of Americans patiently waiting to throw their firearms into a dumpster.
Which means if there ever is a nationwide ban, that actually bans possession, not just manufacture and sale like the last half-assed “ban”, the powers that be are going to face a tough choice. Do they:
A: Send cops door to door, confiscating what they find and interrogating the occupants.
or
B: Pretend that 80% of America’s civilian held inventory of “assault weapons” have been magically spirited away ala South Park’s Underpants Gnomes.
If they choose the first, they’re going to have to work some recruiting magic as even if America’s LEO organizations stop their current shrinkage, they won’t have close to the number of personnel for the job.
