When Democrats Ruled the Earth

The fight against California’s 11% firearm tax (AB 28) is facing roadblocks in the James v. Mederos lawsuit. The state is delaying the case with legal technicalities, forcing gun dealers to continue paying this unconstitutional tax. [Watch]

Well, yeah. They’re Democrats.

Question: Why is no one bellyaching about Pittman-Robertson, especially with all those anti-freedom Fudds throwing the rest of us under the bus?

  1. You can bet that if an injunction had been entered against the law so that the tax could not be collected, the State would be pushing for the case to move quickly.

But it wasn’t, and they’re getting the tax money, so they have every reason to slow-walk it every painful (for gun owners and sellers) step of the way.

Meanwhile, gun owners and sellers have to pay for the legal challenge twice — once through the tax, and again through legal costs to challenge it — while the State has virtually unlimited resources, part of which are paid by the tax’s challengers.

Yossarian saw it clearly in all its spinning reasonableness. There was an elliptical precision about its perfect pairs of parts that was graceful and shocking, like good modern art, and at times Yossarian wasn’t quite sure that he saw it at all, just the way he was never quite sure about good modern art…”

  3. If you go back to the 1951 Michael Rene and Patricia Neal version of “The Day the Earth Stood Still” you will find an interesting scene.

Klaatu, dressed as the earth man “Mr. Carpenter”, is sitting with a group of boarders at his rooming house having breakfast. The discussion is, of course, about the flying saucer and large robot now occupying a local baseball field. That leads to the following exchange.

And that, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, and all of you “God’s creatures” in between, was from a movie made in 1951!
