About Last Night

I hate to spoil all the rave reviews from “our side,” but he said not one word about the Second Amendment. [More]

Why?

Biden had no problem attacking it.

Republicans are quick to pledge their “staunch 2A supporter” creds when the audience is just us gun owners, but when it comes to the Republic as a whole they avoid it. My guess is most of them don’t really understand it well enough to use their position as a bully pulpit, to champion it and educate their constituents on why it is such an important shared right. That absolutely needs to change, and the “gun lobby” needs to step up its game to teach them how and make clear it’s an expectation.

If gun owners let them take us for granted, they will.

Working in the president’s favor: The Democrats were sour-faced and seething. I doubt many of their voters’ minds were changed though, and that’s especially puzzling because the working class was presented with a lot of reasons why their economic interests have been, are, and will be better served by the Republican agenda.

I will give Trump credit for what may be a powerful and useful meme if the Republicans are smart enough to use it:

If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support: The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.

Republicans should show their Democrat opponent who did not stand as part of their midterm campaign. It won’t work against treasonous communists like Omar and Tlaib who “represent” demographically-engineered parasite districts, but it could be an effective reminder in closer races.

A minor image criticism: An aide should have quietly taken him aside and straightened his hair before he entered the chamber. The left side looked like somebody took a leaf blower to it. The night was, after all, ultimately about image.

A self-inflicted vulnerability:

I’ve always wanted the Congressional Medal of Honor, but I was informed I’m not allowed to give it to myself, and I wouldn’t know why I’d be taking it.

I’d expect someone like Mark Kelly to have a field day with that one, and for the DSM to amplify it. Then again, Kelly did not stand.

Doesn’t he know his kind isn’t wanted here anymore?

Just ask Rob Reiner.

And yeah, I saw it last night. He basically had the commies cheering for plans to exacerbate inflation, pile onto the debt, play chicken with Putin and China, further open the pathway to citizenship floodgates, disarm me and you, draw and quarter more babies, and meet the “river to the sea” people going from the sea to the river.

I will give him this: He slurred some words, but getting through the speech as well as he did surprised me. IKt’s an indicaiton he doewsn’t mean to be replaced, and I’m hoping that works in our favor.

Still, and I’ve said this before, the issue this election is abortion, and masses of women voters will ignore everything else and burn the house down to get it.

Change my mind.

From the Same People Who Claim Guns* Don’t Protect

Democrats claim walls don’t work and are racist, except when they think they need them. Ahead of Biden’s state of the union address on Tuesday night, the fence has gone back up at the Capitol Building. The same fencing Democrat put up after J6. [More]

I can’t find it now, but years ago I blue-skyed the premise for a television movie script titled State of the Union in which “terrorists” were going to destroy the Capitol with everybody who was anybody in the three branches and military inside (this was long before Designated Survivor). It was going to segue back and forth between investigators finding things out and perpetrators advancing as the climax approached.

There were two alternate endings, one where they succeeded and one where they were stopped, and it was up to the viewing audience during the final commercial break to call the corresponding toll-free number (yeah, this was before widespread internet) to “vote” on who “won.” I figured it would be kind of an interesting commentary on public sentiment with government where nothing got hurt except ruling class feelings of arrogance and invulnerability.

I didn’t have the juice to make it happen then and I don’t now. Still, if anybody who does wants to, I’d love to help.

* I mean in private hands, of course, for those who feel compelled to remind me that guns are inanimate objects.

UPDATE

Looking at this in retrospect, if anybody ever tried making this now, I fear the motive would be to smear “seditious conspirators,” to show overwhelming support for our Democrat leaders, and to ID everyone who voted “wrong” for special scrutiny.
