To the Moon, Alice!

NASA’s new moon rocket sprang another dangerous fuel leak Saturday, forcing launch controllers to call off their second attempt this week to send a crew capsule into lunar orbit with test dummies. The inaugural flight is now off for weeks, if not months. [More]

So we’re up to the “coincidence” stage

Speaking of test dummies, there are reasons we don’t already have Kubrick’s space wheel and a moon base…

And speaking of space, the wife and I are supporters of the International Women’s Air & Space Museum — we got involved after she became friends with a member of the Ninety-Nines who had flown transport in WWII (and who passed on a few years back). Friday night at their annual Corks on the Concourse wine-tasting fundraiser I won the “space trivia” contest. Three of us were finalists who answered all five original questions correctly, and then we had to go into sudden death. I was the only one who knew about Wally Funk and the Mercury 13 because we’d heard her speak and bought her book at an earlier event.

I won an instructed first flight, which I gave to Sweetie because that had been a long-unrealized fantasy of hers when life, school, career, and family influenced her priorities.

Delay of Game Sitrep

Remember when I said I had a convergence of circumstances affecting my availability to post here and to correspond?

And then when I said I’d be on limited duty as circumstances allowed?

My first post of the day coming in the afternoon is a pretty good indicator of those limitations. Sorry if you took the time to send me something and I end up not being able to get to it for consideration. That’s likely to continue for a while.

I have an article to publicize and then I’ll get to what I can.

Like I said, life, huh?

I’m Back — Sort Of

I’ll be on limited duty here for the next few days as my main focus will be on finishing some articles. Thank you to everyone who respected my request to hold back on correspondence. I’m open for business again, but your continued forbearance in taking it relatively easy on me until further notice will be appreciated.

A Perfect Storm

Three major events in my life have converged and will require my undivided attention over the next few days. I’m sorry, but I won’t be able to even open the dozens of email tips sent in since the “close of business” yesterday, let alone do anything with them.

Please hold off on all emails, tips, messages, and comments until I can return. Otherwise, it will be a wasted effort on your part.

Sorry, that’s the best I can give you.  Life, huh?

I’ll announce when I’m back up and running.

Fury’s post included an image which read “Stop knife crime” and a hashtag saying “only cowards carry weapons”. [More]

Sorry. Not all of us are as manly as Real Man. And even fewer of us are professional heavyweight prizefighters.

Here’s a better way to cut back on violent crime, old sport: Stop economically incentivizing gangs and cartels.

It’s in the Bag

“By instituting the clear bag policy here at the University of Akron we are aligning more with the safety policies across the NCAA, NFL, NHL and most MLB ballparks,” said Markus Jennings, Deputy Director of Athletic/COO. “The fan experience and safety are always at the forefront of every decision we make.” [More]

A lot sure has changed since Dad played there and such concerns were unheard of:

Shortly thereafter he was in the Marines taking Guam.

And Thank You for Your Service

Attorney R. Davis Younts told Just the News the new CDC guidance won’t change military mandates “but absolutely should. [More]

Especially considering what could happen:

“If they are tried and convicted in the appeals court, the case reaches the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. If a service member is convicted in this court, they would likely receive a dishonorable discharge, a bad-conduct discharge, or, in the case of an officer, a dismissal.”

And you know what that would mean.

Doing the Job Government Can’t Do — Yet

They tell me that “your content has violated our Misleading Content policy. Please visit our Community Guidelines page blah, blah, blah”. Whatever. [More]

I confess I know next to nothing about this blog– I saw a post about censorship over at WRSA and that caught my interest seeing as how that’s exactly the reason I had to go through all the hassle of abandoning my Blogspot home of 17 years and starting this continuation blog. I see he, too, is the victim of a new Google censorship focus, which means no matter what he does, there are no assurances that work he spends portions of his life on won’t be summarily removed with no warning and no recourse.

Fortunately, that most invaluable of resources, the Internet Archive/ Wayback Machine* had his back on this one. I don’t see what the problem was with it, but then again, I saw no problem with what I posted either.

I’ve been throwing some money their way once a year because I do find them so indispensable. Case in point: All my Examiner “Gunwalker” stuff would be gone from the net if not for them. And doesn’t that tell you just about everything you need to know about the DSM

UNCLE!

I see the emails, social media messages and news tips are backed up from Friday night. After doing my Firearms News article promo, I’m just getting re-started here now because I spent the morning writing an AmmoLand piece on the “Republicans” who voted for the “assault weapon” ban I expect will be out before too long.

Oh, and first I had to deal with the aftermath of yesterday’s large family gathering we hosted. Where’d that crater in the backyard come from, and why are there bullet holes in the basement?

Bottom line– I’ll get to what I can. But I sure wouldn’t mind a slowdown on inputs.

Thank you to those of you who take the time out of your busy lives to reach out and guide me to interesting and important stories I might otherwise miss. I appreciate your understanding.
