Help Wanted – Inquire Within

Just to share personal experience, I do a search for my work under Google’s News tab to see how it propagates and my AmmoLand stuff is routinely buried behind pages of returns, meaning it won’t be seen. I’ve also noted on several occasions links I post to Facebook to promote my articles result in “Forbidden” messages, meaning followers can’t access them:

On the trip I took recently, I noticed the wifi at Cleveland Airport wouldn’t allow me to load AmmoLand pages (I know, we shouldn’t make a practice of using public wifi but I wanted to do an experiment.) I’m going to test this further, because while it’s a private contractor deciding what gets through its filters, it’s a public facility and may represent a First Amendment violation by government using a proxy.

In the meantime, the appeal for help is real and wouldn’t be made unless necessary.

If you are an AmmoLand regular, that means you recognize that you get value from the site. If you’re a regular here, ditto.

A reason I find it a very useful outlet to write for is that — unlike the magazines — the ability to immediately post on AmmoLand means I can present original breaking stories and exclusives, including on FOIA requests and lawsuits I’m involved in, as well as unique observations on RKBA political and legal developments uncovered elsewhere.

I remember what I asked for when Mike Vanderboegh was undergoing his terrible ordeal and have adapted it for this situation:

I’m not going to ask you to send … a donation … Not a cent in gift money. What I will ask you to do –all of you who visit [the] site every day and receive value from it–is pay for that value. I’m asking you to voluntarily subscribe to [AmmoLand] and help [them] continue to bring YOU … daily reports and insights. Just so we’re clear: This is NOT CHARITY. This is PAYMENT FOR SERVICES BEING RENDERED.

And that goes double for the host of regulars who routinely take advantage of AmmoLand comments to amplify and make their voices heard .

We routinely complain about how the gun prohibitionists have no problem getting their talking point narratives parroted by the same major media that suppresses our arguments, and we see AstroTurf projects like the Michael Bloomberg-seeded propaganda mill paying good wages to propagandists masked as journalists. Here we have a valuable resource that’s struggling and asking for help, and if we lose it we’ll lose a unique voice that produces much content not provided on competitor sites.

I hope people reading this don’t find excuses not to do anything (or to air personal criticisms/grievances) — if you’re a returning reader/comment poster, you’ve already demonstrated you’re receiving value regardless.

Shaking the Foundation

Beats me. The Bylaws don’t help. Nor is the relationship explained in the NRA Foundation Annual Report.

The Guidestar profile shows it as its own 501(c)(3) entity. After signing in I was able to access the 2023 Form 990, and it’s not only a lot of money being handled:

Net assets or fund balances… 183,320,169

There’s also this:

Look, I can’t pretend to know what’s going on, but it seems those who do aren’t interested in explaining how things work and where they derive their corporate authority to run the Foundation from. For an entity out there performing community theater and essentially saying we’ve learned our lesson, we’ve reformed, you can trust us now, and send money, you’d think management would know that the only way to even try to win disaffected members back would be complete transparency.

Until it does, those running the show will be doing a better job of burning down the h0use than Leitia James and Alvin Bragg ever could.

And I say all this as an outsider, albeit a life member who has a hard time giving a damn about internal organizational politics, looking in. I burned out on that from my Members Council days, when I decided the most satisfying and productive use of my time would be as a free and unaffiliated observer.

This is very sad news that came as a shock. I’ve been telling WarOnGuns readers about this unique venture in truthful local journalism for years, first on the original blog and then here.

Per editor, publisher, and driving force George Gramlich, who set the example and created a template others can follow:

All it takes is effort,dedication and love of country and our Constitution. Think local patriots. Local is doable. Get off the internet and get your neighbors and friends in gear. Engage. Take the offensive. This should serve as an example for patriots everywhere. Start your local efforts now. There is no shame in trying and losing, but there is shame in not trying.

I got an email from George a few days back while on vacation telling me he was hospitalized and would be entering hospice. I called him yesterday and let him know what an inspiration he has been to me.

It’s not the first time I’ve felt compelled to do that, and all you can do is share prayers, honest feelings, respect, and love, and hope that in some small way that brings a measure of comfort. And acknowledge that we’ll all be looking at our own last chapter some day.

Indicative of his spirit and character, our conversation was warm and forward-looking. George told me the people who worked there know how to keep The Sentinel operational and what they need is a new general. While no one can take his place as a unique human being, functions are fillable by those with the right skills and mindsets. I’ll reaching out and seeing what encouragement I can offer from afar, and in the meantime, keeping brother George in my prayers.
