Laying the Foundation

Why Former Slave States Became the Foundation of American Gun Culture [More]

Because white people are racist, of course!

Who couldn’t see that coming?

And did you know that “It’s only relatively recently that Americans have come to believe that guns keep a person safe and secure”? (Forget “security of a free State”– the old slave owners were obviously talking about a collective right!)

Pencil-necked academic and critic of “meritocracy [and] the Protestant Work Ethic” Nick Buttrick said it, I believe it, and that settles it!

Who Couldn’t See THAT Coming?

Gov. Ned Lamont said this week that he wants to go after thousands of firearms legally kept in Connecticut under several “grandfather” provisions in the state’s decades-old assault weapons ban… [More]

What, the ones Connecticut gun owners naively registered?

Brazil’s Leftists Set Sights on Renewed Citizen Disarmament

And Lula, of course, being an old socialist, is against guns, but Congress may stand in his way. No problem though, because we’re told he can put in place by decree “what Brazil had before.”

By diktat. Who does that? [More]

Prepare to repeat the past.

Voting Victimhood

Iowa City is taking a stance against a proposed gun rights amendment to the Iowa Constitution that is up for a vote in next week’s midterms. City Council members passed a resolution opposing Public Measure Number One earlier this week. [More]

Proudly self-billed as “A UNESCO city…”

Not to mention a Bloomberg one

I wonder if that’s why 76% of the cities in the U.S. are safer…?

Speaking of Shoddy Conclusions…

The Shoddy Conclusions of the Man Shaping the Gun-Rights Debate – John Lott is the most influential pro-gun researcher in the country. But his methods and findings have been repeatedly debunked. [More]

I see a lot of smears, a lot of ad hominem, and a lot of denials by those with vested monetary grant interests, but what I’m not seeing is actual data to refute him. Forgive me if I suspect a partnership with the Bloomberg-“seeded” The Trace might play a factor in this obvious hit piece.

Incidentally, I had to open this in an “incognito” window because I’ve used up my “free” reads. Forgive me again if I don’t see anything offered by these smug effete elites worth paying for.

Plenty of truth to this cover, wouldn’t you say?

Faithfully Representing Their Consituents’ Interests

Missouri House Minority Leader Crystal Quade (D – District 132) and several others signed a letter sent to Gov. Mike Parson’s office on Thursday. The group suggests three specific courses of action in the letter to prevent tragedies like last week in Missouri: Universal background checks, strengthened extreme-risk protection orders and repealing the Second Amendment Preservation Act. [More]

Yeah, go after “the law-abiding!”

That’ll fix exactly nothing.

Which is kind of the point.

Your Masters Have Spoken

As a result of the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) of 2022, signed into law on June 25, 2022, the NICS Section has been working towards the implementation of an enhanced background check process for persons between the ages of 18-20. The enhancement provides the opportunity for additional outreach and research to be conducted regarding the existence of any juvenile adjudication information and/or mental health prohibition. As a result, transactions on persons between the ages of 18-20 will initially be delayed and the address of the individual will be collected so that the appropriate local and state entities may be contacted. The enhanced process will begin on November 14, 2022, for all transactions on persons under the age of 21 as previously described. Checks on persons under the age of 21 could be extended for a period up to ten business days. Therefore, it is possible for an FFL to be contacted with an updated Brady Transfer Date. As a temporary measure and until the NICS can be updated to provide this information electronically, NICS staff will be calling FFLs to advise of any change in the transfer date. In preparation for calls from NICS, you will be asked to verify your license number and code word. You may wish to have this information readily available for you and your staff. [More]

We’re the Only Ones Dated Enough

A central issue in Sheriff Smith’s trial is whether she provided concealed carry weapon permits in exchange for donations or other favors. Under questioning from San Francisco Assistant District Attorney Gabriel Markoff, Bechtel said he provided $750,000 to the Sheriff’s Advisory Board and arranged construction crews to make improvements to the Sheriff’s Department shooting range… Bechtel said he, his son, and two other relatives acquired concealed carry permits that were signed by Sheriff Smith. At least we know from Harpreet Chada that Laurie’s Big Club wasn’t exclusively “white privileged,” but I’d still like to see someone look into other “underrepresentation.”

In answer to an anticipated question, this was a civil trial and one of her defenders says regardless, these are not felonies. And here I was looking forward to Laurie becoming a “prohibited person” if they end up bringing criminal, charges.

We’ll Just See About That

“It’s not 1994 anymore,” said Peter Ambler, executive director of the gun safety organization Giffords, founded by former Ariz. Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was shot in 2011. “It’s safe to say that, at this point, we have obliterated the idea that guns is risky political territory for Democrats. Quite the contrary.” [More]

At least they’ve convinced some “moderate Republicans”

A word about the flip side of TINVOWOOT: They can’t vote in our disarmament, either. Not as long as, say, three percent of us say “No.”

And on top of that, he’s got an insufferable “Only Ones” mentality.

With the latest DeSantis disconnect it seems like Florida Republicans are going out of their way to alienate gun owners.

And not just Florida Republicans

Armed Marine Vet Learns that in Anti-Gun Maryland No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

“The victim can be seen on police body-worn cameras telling the police that Mr. Muldrow probably saved his life,” the informational alert concluded. “Many other witnesses on the scene spoke up for Mr. Muldrow’s heroic actions. None of that mattered.” [More]

I interviewed Muldrow for Firearms News to get what happened straight from him.
