Ohio lawmakers move on some BFA-backed gun bills before recessing [More]
We’ll see what gets extruded.
Noting the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I’d like to see a deeper dive on this one.
Notes from the Resistance

Logically, if you’re going to ban guns and drinking in business establishments, why wouldn’t you preemptively demand the same controls in homes, the places where “domestic violence” can take place? [More]
I need a drink.
With complete republican control in Ohio, there is no excuse for the lack of pro-gun wins in 2025, so let your elected officials know you are displeased with their lack of support for the Second Amendment. [More]
I see it made quite the impression:

Gee, who would’a suspected he’d turn out to be a Vichycon weasel?
Thing is, it looks like the GOA email tool automatically sent a state bill inquiry to a U.S. senator.

The Second Amendment Preservation Act (SAPA) was shelved last December, and lawmakers have done nothing to advance it in nearly a year. Which means the critical time for action is NOW! … With complete republican control in Ohio, there is no excuse for the lack of pro-gun wins in 2025, so let your elected officials know you are displeased with their lack of support for the Second Amendment. [More]
Yeah we can expect better than redundancy and “Only Ones.”

Sen. Johnson introduces legislation to fix serious problems in Ohio… SB 278 seeks to add teeth to the law by giving individuals the power to seek punitive damages against cities that pass gun control measures… SB 279 would make it illegal for a business, state agency, or political subdivision from preventing an off-duty law enforcement officer from carrying a firearm. [More]
So those who would impose new laws on us willfully violate what’s already on the books with impunity? Yeah, punishing Democrats would be nice. Too bad it’s not the politicians themselves who have to pay but the poor tax slobs they already overburden.
As for off-duty cops, yeah, I know, it’s another carve out for “Only Ones,” but like I said in my Firearms News report exposing the illegal rule at Youngstown State’s stadium and citing existing Ohio Revised Code:
[T]he issue here is YSU officials do not have authority to override state preemption on gun laws and impose local prohibitions.
So, basically, we’re talking two new laws to enforce two existing laws.
And here you thought government was ludicrously overblown, redundant, and wasteful…
While going through some old stuff, I came across a post about some hysterical hand-wringing by an “Authorized Journalist/real reporter” over Ohio’s permitless carry bill:
A Republican permitless carry gun law will bring Ohio more death
Reality, of course, has shown that to be utter nonsense.
I challenged the claim and the methodology behind it at the time, and invited the author to respond. Lo and behold:

I’ve learned everything I need to about you, Craig Calcaterra.
At last night’s Turning Point USA event, Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy channeled his inner George H. W. Bush, calling for a “kinder and gentler” MAGA movement: No longer should we concentrate on “defeating the left” or “owning the libs.” [More]
How many items do these raging Marxist maniacs and their useful idiot apologists have to signal their desire to see us dead before this insulated dope groks we’re talking existential survival here?
The only reason we have Vivek as the nominee instead of a far superior Dave Yost, who had earned his shot, is because the White House is rewarding him for past usefulness but isn’t ready to seat him in the inner circle. Kind of like sending Gavin Newsom ex Kimberly Guilfoyle off to Greece now that Don Jr. has traded up on a newer model…

Hey Ohio! Elliot Forhan, Democrat candidate for Ohio Attorney General, responded to Charlie Kirk’s assassination with “F*** Charlie Kirk.” A man running to be Ohio’s top law enforcement officer celebrating murder? That’s not leadership—it’s moral rot. He must withdraw from the race. [More]
Now let’s think this through.
The guy was “stripped … of nearly all his privileges due to allegations of ‘abusive’ and ‘violent’ behavior — and the ‘pattern of harassment, hostility, and intimidation of colleagues and staff’”…?
A black, female Democrat lawmaker felt compelled to file for a protection order against him because she “did not feel safe… after a number of female Democratic lawmakers accused him of aggressive and threatening behavior in private and public interactions”…?
Just the guy to lecture us on guns…
This guy is a gold mine. Why would Republicans want a Democrat candidate who doesn’t bear such political vulnerabilities to run in his stead?

Despite these facts, the Lucas County Sherriff’s Office and the Sylvania Prosecutor’s Office have refused to drop the charges and are deliberately ignoring Ohio law. Worse, and perhaps most egregiously, according to court filings, the Sylvania Prosecutor’s Office has taken the extraordinary position that anyone — even those holding a valid concealed handgun license — may be arrested and charged simply for having a loaded firearm in their car. [More]
We touched on this here, and my concerns still apply.
It’s up to the majority Republicans to fix this, and I note years later I’m still slapping my forehead over how over a decade after being put on notice DeWine refuses to ensure the “Only Ones” know the damn law.
Forget Lucas County Sherriff’s Office and Sylvania Prosecutor’s Office. It’s Michael Navarre and Heather Pentycofe. The bucks stop there.

Although the board of the Canfield Fair were forced by law to allow carrying of firearms in open areas, they saturated “No Guns” signs on almost every building. [More]
Their motto is “Something to crow about!” What they’re crowing is, “In your faces, gun owners!”
Garrett’s attorney, state Rep. Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Twp.), says prosecutors are leaning on an Ohio law that bans drivers and passengers from having loaded firearms within reach inside a vehicle. But he argues another section of the law creates an exemption for concealed carry license holders. Garrett holds a lifetime license in Indiana. [More]
And duty to inform IF ASKED seems ripe for a Fifth Amendment challenge.
Yet the Republicans who allow this and aren’t pushing for change will be quick to brag about how they’re “staunch defenders of the Second Amendment” come election time.

Ohio officials are reminding educational, religious and nonprofit institutions across the state to consider a range of safety-related resources and funding opportunities. [More]
No, of course the one thing that will work isn’t included.

Franklin County judge, a Democrat, shoots down Columbus gun ordinances [More]
I’m not so much sure we could call him a “good” Democrat as one who could not figure out a way to override clear state preemption law without bringing a s#!+storm down on himself.
Violence is hitting Ohio’s county fairs, and state law protects guns over fairgoers [More]
It would help if they told us which laws the violent would obey, and how making the peaceable more vulnerable to their predation would do anything but make it worse.
But, like typical statists, their answer is to disempower the individual and give more to the controllers, and call for more when that predictably doesn’t do anything but put free men in restraints.
You don’t hate “authorized journalists” enough.

Fred Ode, a Lorain County entrepreneur, says he’s preparing to enter Ohio’s Democratic U.S. Senate race and is ready to pour millions of dollars of his own money into his campaign…Brown, Ode says, is “playing by the old rules. …Democrats have to make things happen.” [More]
Well, we know all about Brown’s old rules. What about Fred’s “new” ones?
Over at Ode Nepoexecutive Central, we see he owns a country club. Shall we see what he imposes when he exerts total control?

Yeah, uh, f_ you, Fred. Although I wouldn’t mind if you forced Brown to burn through some campaign cash.
And doesn’t this just say something about the priorities of many well-heeled country club Republicans I’m sure are members, who are on the course instead of at the range?

Sherrod Brown to launch a comeback attempt for Senate in Ohio [More]
And you know what that means.
Ohio voters may just be stupidly self-destructive enough…

Found this 14 year trip on the way-back machine in a box of junk that I was getting ready to toss. The anti-gun rights groups were predicting dire consequences if concealed carry licensees who were armed but not drinking were to be able to enter businesses that served alcohol. Just like their cries that there would be “blood in the streets” when concealed carry went through seven years earlier, their hand wringing over “guns in bars” has proven to be nothing but hysterical theatrics. [More]
How many bigoted smears and outright lies can you spot?
The article is not archived but the link redirects to Columbus Monthly, and the new incarnation is still out there spooking the “progressive” herd.

Today, we’re detailing nine new House bills and one new Senate bill that BFA opposes — though “new” is a stretch. These are largely the same ineffective measures rebranded with fresh bill numbers. [More]
No one ever accused Opposite Day “progressives” of actually having new ideas.

Ohio House Bill 331 and Ohio Senate Bill 214 propose revisions to the Ohio Revised Code, eliminating suppressors and mufflers from the definition of dangerous ordnance and removing language that mandates suppressor registration under the NFA. [More]
I guess it doesn’t hurt to build redundancy into a system.
I’m just the type who thinks “shall not be infringed’ oughta cover everything, in Everytown…
