An Idea Whose Time Hasn’t Come

Following Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy’s push for more gun control under the guise of declaring “gun violence” a “public health crisis,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms announced its support for the proposed Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act, sponsored by U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R-IN). [More]

Only one problem:

Prognosis 0% chance of being enacted

Revisit this after November and see if the numbers have changed.

Looking a Gift Horse in the Mouth

The justices in a 6-3 vote on nonideological lines handed a win to defendant Joseph Fischer, who is among hundreds of Jan. 6 defendants — including former President Donald Trump — who have been charged with obstructing an official proceeding over the effort to prevent Congress’ certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory. [More]

That’s great news. But once again, Amy Coney Barrett casts doubt on her appointment.

She gave us Bruen, but as the saying goes, “What has she done for us lately?”

As I noted at the time:

While Barrett’s confirmation should give gun owners a degree of hope and should certainly be viewed as more positive than a Biden nominee being placed on the High Court, we’ll need to wait and see if the gun groups or the gun-grabbers are right in their assessments. Republican appointments have disappointed in the past. Warren Burger and David Souter coming to mind.

Back to J6, that means hundreds have been falsely accused, arrested, prosecuted, and imprisoned. Who will pay?

Democrats are still out there smearing them as insurrectionists and traitors.

The Wrong Way

The Supreme Court struck the ban down, making it clear that if you wanted to ban bumpstocks you had to do it the right way, which is the way the Constitution outlines, which is actually passing a bill through Congress and having it signed into law by the president. [Watch]

Wrong:

“Left unsaid is where Congress derives such authority in the first place, as the power to regulate and ban arms is nowhere delegated to it in the Constitution. The only clear mandate is ‘the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.’ By any branch of government.”

Change my mind. Show the section and clause.

I expect our would-be leaders to know this stuff.

We’re the Only Ones Deranging Enough

On June 30, the Joe Foss Shooting Complex at Buckeye Hills Regional Park will close. The current permit holder, who has managed the range for the past six months, was notified last month that the permit would not be renewed… The decision has been made to transition the Complex to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). [More]

I’m told the MCSO has a facility next to it but they have access to other ranges in the county that are LEO-only, and I’m wondering if there’s any anti-armed citizen political motive behind this, and if we can expect more.

Maybe we should start with what the prior permit holder has to say, and then look into if a FOIA request for correspondence between decision makers is called for.

If you know anything about this, feel free to educate us in “Comments.”

Attn: Washington Gun Owners

Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, is joined by GOP Candidate Michael Baumgartner, a former State Senator now running to be the Representative to the US House in the 5th Congressional District. Michael is part of a very crowded field of both Repubicans and Democrats vying for this open seat. Today we ask Michael lots of questions, but most imprtantly, what sets him apart from the other candidates for this race. So learn more today so you can arm yourself with education [Watch]

The district is winnable for Republicans, so this isn’t a waste of time.

Know the race, the candidates, and where they stand on the issues. Anybody got any info on the other Republicans? If I can find time I’ll look, but just putting their names into a search engine and adding “+ gun” is a good starting point.

Some People Just Won’t Learn

The reason you see headlines claiming someone is serving a long prison sentence for possession of a small amount of drugs is that they are repeat offenders. Repeat offenders receive longer sentences, and most people in prisons are repeat offenders. [More]

This is pre-election politicking designed to unnerve GOP cowards. It won’t work any better than Schumer’s bump stock stunt.

“McWhirter noted, “If there was ever a political situation in which PLCAA was rolled back, they would stop making AR-15s tomorrow because it would just be legally impossible. And, and all, every other gun would be really problematic.” [More]

It’s always been about taking your guns.

And The Trace has always been about its damaged propagandists, who no doubt are delusional enough to believe themselves champions of “commonsense gun safety. “
