The War on Guns

This bill would prohibit, commencing on January 1, 2027, a licensed firearms dealer from selling, offering for sale, exchanging, giving, transfering, or delivering a semiautomatic pistol, as defined, unless the pistol has been verified as a microstamping-enabled pistol. The bill would also prohibit a person from modifying a microstamping-enabled pistol or microstamping component with the intent to prevent the production of a microstamp. By creating new crimes, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program. [More]

Intolerable Acts

Colorado gun control bills progress; semi-auto ban unlikely … The other gun-control proposals that have found broad Democratic support include strengthening red-flag laws, raising the firearm purchasing age to 21, opening the gun industry up to legal liability and installing a three-day waiting period after buying a gun. David B. Kopel addresses the “many false and deceptive statements” the antis are using to try and swindle the citizenry out of its semiautos.

The Vichycon Difference!

A federal appeals court Tuesday ruled to keep an Illinois state-wide “assault weapons” ban in effect, denying a request from a business owner who claims the ban is unconstitutional. The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decided to uphold a lower ruling by U.S. District Judge Virginia Kendall, who found the ban to be “constitutionally sound,” despite the request for an injunction… [More]

Kendall was nominated by George W. Bush.

The Seventh Circuit has seven Republican appointees and three Democrat appointees.

Capture the Flag!

Have a contemplative Patriots’ Day!

I got the above certificate along with a U.S. flag that had been flown over the Capitol back when I was still living in CA. It’s a constituent service that members of Congress provide for a nominal fee (20 bucks and up these days, depending on size and material). My dedication message read:

“In tribute to the Citizen Patriots of Lexington and Concord who resisted confiscation of their armaments on this date in 1775, and in continued defiance of all who would infringe on the Right of the People to keep and bear arms.”*

I did it because my “representative” was a big gun-grabber and refusing a pro-RKBA commemoration would have been a First Amendment violation.

With that in mind, there are plenty of other dedications antithetical to “woke” orthodoxy that could be submitted. To find out how to order one, go to your rep’s website and find the “Sevices” link.

We’re the Only Ones Klannish Enough

The governor of Oklahoma has called for the resignations of the sheriff and other top officials in a rural county after they were recorded talking about “beating, killing and burying” a father/son team of local reporters — and lamenting that they could no longer hang Black people with a “damned rope.” [More]

Speaking of rope, way to give Rachel Madcow & Co. all they need to tie every Republican in with these morons.

And note the authoritarian response: They don’t deny they said it, they threaten to go after whoever “illegally” recorded it.

Seems to be a thing with a certain type…

‘No, No!’ Said the Queen. ‘Sentence First — Verdict Afterwards.’

But what are due process protections when it comes to the government’s intentional deprivation of a constitutionally protected right, or even a constitutionally protected “property” right, through ex parte proceedings? [More]

Well, we could go with the stare decisis version and defer to past acts of judicial tyranny, or we could go with a historical understanding to be guided by Amendments IV, V, and VI

That treacherous wretch Bill Lee has established his legacy.

And Now for Something Completely Different

I’ll be leaving this afternoon for the NRA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis. (Those who caution me not to make public announcements of absences, don’t worry. Elder feral son Uday will be coming over and I’m neither chaining him up nor feeding him.) If you’re going I hope to meet you, assuming you don’t want to punch me out. I’ll be bringing a poll with me that I’ll be doing an article about that should take less than a minute to answer, so I hope I can count on your cooperation.

I’ve got a ton of stuff to do today to get ready, including finishing up an article and maybe drafting a new one if I can get to it. The dandelions here are in full bloom so I also need to take a couple of hours for yard work before the neighbors run me out.

As such, news tips emailed to me that I decide to present here are all going to be linked in this post with no commentary and a mass credit at the bottom. With that in mind, please don’t submit any more from this point on until Monday, and understand that I will not be moderating comments received after I leave until I return.

The following list will be added to as long as I can get to it:
