What a stacked deck. Because it’s not Giffords, which rakes in millions, that’s defending against infringment challenges. It’s various levels of government, with virtually unlimited tax plunder-funded legal war chests.

Meanwhile, the gun groups fighting on our behalf are begging for minimal contributions from already overextended members and supporters. Just don’t let the apparent success momentum of these efforts capitalizing on Bruen suggest it’s OK to ease up.

As much contempt as I have for the guy’s wannabe tyranny, this is bull$h!+ that some unknown person with who-knows-what axe to grind can mess with a man’s reputation this way. Unless we’re talking about a court order due to credible threats necessitating witness protection, The Messenger’s motives and credibility should be suspect.

The question now is if he will be hoisted with his own petard and disarmed — and if not, why not?

While the position is officially nonpartisan, it’s interesting to note that Stothert is one of those “moderate” Republicans who take the fire out of the bellies of gun owners looking for alternatives to gun-grabbing Democrats. In her case, her husband’s 2021 suicide “from a self-inflicted gunshot wound” merits our sympathy, but not to the extent that using her political power to mandate life-endangering infringements should be tolerated.
